I'm Katy Rose, a globe trotting writer from northern Minnesota. I was raised in the forest about 150 miles south of the Canadian border in Clover Valley, a very special community populated with some of the most wonderful people I have ever met. My family had composting toilets, organic gardens in the yard and we heat the house my parents built with wood stoves. I moved out when I was 16 to study creative writing at the Perpich Center for Arts Education and since then I've been on the road. I've traveled whenever I can sneak a vacation day - through the United States, Europe and South America. I love meeting people, exploring new stories, cultures and history.
In August of 2011, I moved to Los Angeles, California for a job that was supposed to last a year, and I ended up finding a community, relationships and the sort of life I was not ready to leave. The time for a new adventure came in spring 2014, one that will lead me home to Minnesota eventually. The decision to leave California and move home was not an easy one, and it is detailed here.

Before I settle back in Minneapolis, I'm going to travel through Europe for 6-7 months, beginning on my 25th birthday - July 7th, 2014. I'm going to be volunteering on farms, visiting friends and exploring cities throughout Europe - beginning in Amsterdam and heading south towards Greece, then to Turkey. In October, I will travel to Northern Ireland, where I will stay for 3-4 months to research and work on my book, a piece of historical fiction that takes place in Derry in 1972.
